Nexus Festival

October 19 - 20

Het Domijn

Weesp

Platform Nexus opens their doors again:

On October 19 and 20, 2024, we are hosting our first two-day NEXUS FESTIVAL!

You are warmly invited to our warehouse at het Domijn in Weesp for a playful and interdisciplinary program, consisting of performances, youth theater, installations, workshops, work-in-progress presentations, a bowl of lentil soup by the campfire, and more. Experience the works of our Nexus members and external NEXUS LAB residents, who have been exploring new work with us over the past few months.

Since 2021, our warehouse at Domijn has been the home of Platform Nexus: a place where artists experiment, create, and collaborate. Our work is physical and spatial in nature and moves between the worlds of theater, performance, sound, and installations.

Come by and experience the program below with us!

No ticket is required.

However, we do work with a donation based token-system for reservations and entering the program.

Wolwêzen | Rachel Schuit & Gaertsje van der Zee

continuously between 13.00 - 17.00 | Installation, participatory, sustainability | 30 min. | all ages | language no problem

Wolwêzen is a project by theater makers Rachel Schuit and Geartsje van der Zee, centered around a key question: How is our well-being intertwined with the well-being of the landscape? Together with a diverse group of young people, who for various reasons are temporarily not attending school, they explored this question through a collective building process. In the 'Tuin van de toekomst’ (Granden of the future) in Jorwert, they constructed a skûlplak (shelter) using locally harvested natural materials—a willow frame with wool felt covering. They believe that working with local materials can restore the connection between people and their natural surroundings. This project explores the value of collaboration and focuses on possibilities rather than the limitations of a sustainable future. For Nexus Festival, they have created a theatrical experience inviting you to take a seat in the self-built skûlplak. In this sensory experience, you will be gently enveloped, sharing a moment of stillness in the calm of this temporary shelter—together with each other and with the materials.

Body of Water | Tamar Blom i.c.w. Federico Murgia

continuously between 13.00 - 20.30 | sensorial installation | 6 min. | language no problem

Water. Within Chinese philosophy one of the most important elements to think about who we are and how we relate to the world. In Body of Water, Tamar Blom and Federico Murgia create a relationship between you and the water. Water is flexible, powerful and nourishing; These are some of the qualities which make it one of the most important elements for life. But it can also cause serious threats: sometimes there is water in abundance and sometimes there is shortage. Tamar and Federico let you hear, see and feel the influence water can have on you as a person. What does water mean to you?

The Story As I Have Received and Rehearsed It | Naomi Collier Broms & Jean Medina

14.00 | performance, research presentation | 40 min. | English language

A man finds himself alone in a room with a mysterious vessel. Or is it a portal? Or is it a pot? Or a tunnel? Haunted and perplexed by the sound swelling from its depths, he decides to create a character to help him understand it. What begins as a creative exercise quickly spirals into a clouded search for meaning and a struggle to answer a crucial question: what does the other side sound like? This performance is a visual, sonic, and textual exploration of our relationship to the unknown. It’s a reflection on the limits of human understanding, and the efforts we make to defy – or in some cases - accept them. It’s also an ode to swan songs, and the people who sing them. A first iteration / research presentation of the piece will be shown as part of Nexus Festival 2024.

15.00 | motion - based performance around the terrain | 90 min

Physical body, enduring body, sensory body, injured body, transforming body, gendered body, aging body, dream body, present body, forgotten body, individual body, collective body… body project is a collection—a living archive—of diverse bodies and their physical memories. It explores the identity of the physical body as a source of personal experience, contrasting with the cultural body, shaped by beliefs and social constructs. It questions the body as both an individual and collective entity. It is a duet of two identities within one body. It is a group piece that embodies the power of moving together. It is a ritual that transforms space and time.

Intersona | work-in-progress | Robbi Meertens

17.00 | soundart, performance | 25 min. | language no problem

‘To resonate: re-sonare. To sound again.’ Sound, space, matter and human. They move eachother. In scientific sense resonance is the co-motion of one by movement of the other. In poetic sense resonance has to do with recognition, agreement and connection. Intersona is a transdisciplinary performance-in-making in which the physical and inner resonance between body, object and space will be researched. Through a complex feedback system, acoustics and movement the sonic field has the capability to literally and figuratively merge image and sound, movement and space, matter and mind.

NYX | work-in-progress | Karlijn Hamer

18.30 | music, work-in-progress | 60 min. | language no problem

In NYX , Karlijn wants to collectively experience the twilight as an act of resistance against an ever-accelerating and brightening world; a rite of passage that allows us to get used to the dark, an area without overview or guidance. A place where we don't like to be, which beholds the opportunity to merge with your environment, a borderless world without end. Walk with Karlijn across the outdoor grounds of Het Domijn where you can watch the evening fall together while hearing the first experiments of their musical work. A world in which contours slowly fade and the imagination takes over.

Trying to get cozy in the dark dark void | FADAT

21.00 | mime, performance | 60 min. | language no problem

Two beings exist in a green void. This void, a hideous expanse of nothingness, stretches infinitely in every direction, leaving them unsure if they occupy all of it or none of it at all. The boundaries of their being seem to blur, as they feel an overwhelming connection to all that was, all that is, and all that ever will be. Anything could happen because nothing ever will. In the void, danger is looming because nothing touches them. They are caught in a cruel dance, where their misery births a bizarre enjoyment. Stunned by possibility, grasped by fear and sparked by joy, they are stretched to an extreme. A deep longing for coziness and comfort creeps in, culminating in a desperate quest for blankets. This physical and visual performance unveils an atmospheric exploration of emptiness. An emptiness reverberating from, around, and through the bodies of the performers. Biography collective FADAT is a performance collective consisting of Dutch-Iranian siblings Manuel Groothuysen and Diane Mahín. After having finished their theoretical studies in social sciences and humanities, the duo started to collaborate during their studies at the Institute of Performative Arts in Maastricht. They artistically connect through their shared existential and absurdist view on reality, and on the ways in which humans are subjected to the manipulation of (non-)human entities. These ideas can be overwhelming and confronting, but if one manages to zoom out, potentially liberating and painfully funny. Diane and Manuel shape these concepts into audiovisual performative realities informed by human behavior inside both fabricated and inevitable patterns. The Seeds that Surface | Alexandra Loembé

15.00 & 17.00 | dance | 25 min. | language no problem

In an intimate setting, between the whispers of past and present, dancer Alexandra Loembé explores the power of imagination and collective creativity. “The seeds that surface” is an interdisciplinary solo performance and metamorphic journey in which childhood memories unfold a boundless landscape, revealing the complexity and fluidity of cultural identity. It reflects the cyclical nature of existence and the potential to illuminate different sides of yourself from the dark. Alexandra Loembé (1997) is a Russian-Congolese dance artist. In 2020 she completed the Dance Teacher training at the Academy for Theater and Dance. In addition, she has further trained with the SNDO (ATD/AHK), Boukje Schweigman (Schweigman&) and Ecole des Sables. Next to her work as a maker and performer, Alexandra currently works for Nederlands Dans Theater, the Academy for Theater and Dance and Kleintjekunst, among others. Alexandra’s work is influenced by both African and European contemporary and urban dance, multi-sensitivity and connectivity to nature.Through dance she wants to bring different worlds together whilst allowing you to re-experience your inner world. De Bonk | Bunqer

18.00 | mime, performance | 40 min. | Dutch language

Seven birds crash into seven windows in seven seconds. Something is seriously wrong. This is a sign, and Ray immediately knows he must take it very seriously. He decides to lock himself in his room and keep the shutters closed until he has crafted a world-shaking speech. Alone in his room, madness creeps under Ray’s skin, along with pleasure, fire, and anger. The thudding of the birds against the windows echoes through his mind like a rhythmic heartbeat that transforms into a pounding beat. As the beat intensifies, Ray grows beyond himself. His thoughts become increasingly radical, and he slowly loses control. De Bonk is a research of queerness, anger, shame, and the overly developed ability to conform to the norm. An ability that is developed out of necessity, can provide safety, but ultimately becomes suffocating. During our residency at Nexus, we will lay the groundwork for our performance 'De Bonk', which will premiere at the Amsterdam Fringe Festival. Through this performance, we aim not only to highlight the complexity of personal identity and social pressure but also to create a deeper understanding of the various ways people cope with an increasingly extreme world. De Bonk invites the audience to reflect on the setbacks that shape us and to show empathy and understanding for perspectives that seem far removed from our own. Bunqer is a creative duo consisting of Tine Tabak and Niels van Heijningen, a writer/dramaturge and a mimer/actor. In their work, they strive to connect the thinking body with the adventurous spirit. Their mission is to put ‘mime writing’ on the map and explore how the performative, physical, and honest power of mime can be combined with the poetic and narrative power of language. In this way, they aim to create stories that are unrestrained and full of life. Bunqer seeks to inspire the audience to lead bold, daring, and mindful lives. They have previously created work for Boslab Theater Festival, Podium Bloos, and Studio/K.

14.00 | youth theatre, mime | 45 min. | language no problem

This immersive musical performance takes you on a playful journey through the wonders of weather. When it rains outside, you can find shelter indoors. Do you battle to keep the weather at bay, or do you embrace it, finding music in the raindrops and rhythm in the storm? Drip…drip…drip… It’s raining cats and dogs! Drip…drip…drip…plop…plink…plonk… It’s pouring down from the sky! If you listen carefully, you can hear music And the wind, it blows until you spin pirouettes.
